On May 25, 2018 the General Data Protection Regulation – also known as GDPR – comes into effect. As a result of this Regulation, it is highly likely you are finding your mailboxes cluttered with emails asking you to update your preferences, settings and profiles. An email of that kind was also sent to you by us, here at IDOCDE.
Please, don't be discouraged from updating your preferences, settings, and profiles by the amount of related emails you received. What you're essentially investing in is knowing what of your information is shared with whom and for which purpose. In other words, this is an opportunity for you to regain control regarding whom you share your information with and which content it is that you receive directly to your inbox.
The good thing about GDPR is that it asks every online service to have a document of their client's "freely given, specific, informed, and unambiguous consent." Anyone failing to follow the new guidelines will be facing serious legal consequences. This is an unprecedented opportunity for online communities everywhere to reflect upon how they treat their fellow inhabitants’ right to privacy and agency both online and off.
Following the new guidelines, IDOCDE has sent an email to all previously registered recipients of The IDOCDE Newsletter Service asking them/you to confirm you still want to receive information from IDOCDE this way. A good thing to remember is that with the IDOCDE Newsletter Service we are aiming to deliver only the most important IDOCDE updates directly to your inbox. All information presented to you with this newsletter will be written in short form. Extended, detailed accounts are available at IDOCDE.net.
Before making your choice, please consider the following: This Newsletter is possibly the most reliable way for Team IDOCDE to reach you with the most important information. In other words, by continuing your subscription, or subscribing for the first time – in case you’re a new member – you will help us make sure you stay informed.
You can subscribe to The IDOCDE Newsletter Service by clicking HERE.
All previous receivers who do not re-subscribe will be unsubscribed from The IDOCDE Newsletter Service on June 1st, 2018 and their information will be deleted from our newsletter server forever.
Whilst some of us were studying the new guidelines, others were working hard preparing for the upcoming annual IDOCDE symposium, entitled YOU ARE HERE! In anticipation of the symposium, IDOCDE’s tech wizard Martin Streit, wrote the following:

IDOCDE is an online and offline community for dance teachers and other professionals associated with the field of (experimental) dance and choreography. It lives from the content being shared by the members of the community.
With the MIND THE DANCE initiative we, members of the MIND THE DANCE team of researchers, collected approaches to documenting. We were not trying to give a complete overview but share our and different approaches to the effort of documenting the teaching of dance. Compiled into the online publication – which can be found at MINDTHEDANCE.com – the researchers’ contributions can be read, seen and listened to. One can take the contributions and test the methodologies they articulate, apply them and adjust them to one’s own needs.
We are in the midst of sharing these practices in labs [http://www.idocde.net/pages/132] across Europe. The annual IDOCDE symposium, taking place in Vienna during the ImPulsTanz dance festival, will serve as an additional place and time to share. With the help of lecturers that have participated in one of the MIND THE DANCE Labs and a MIND THE DANCE Residency before the symposium.
