You are here! - 2018

6th IDOCDE Symposium on Contemporary Dance Education

July 27 - 29, 2018 at ImPulsTanz Vienna International Dance Festival

You are here!

6th IDOCDE Symposium – Summer 2018

Here – in an unknown potential of knowing – you are called to create, realize, give shape to Time, Space, and a Body of Knowledge together, during the 6th IDOCDE Symposium.

Previous IDOCDE symposia aimed at encouraging not only the analytical study of how to think and speak about the practice of dancing, choreography, dance pedagogy, art and their participatory natures differently, but also the practical learning of how to do all those practices differently. This was through attentive moderation of formal and informal environments; scores that enabled sharing, analyzing, questioning, reflecting, and documenting of prepared content and presentations created on the spot – disseminated through practice and theory.

The IDOCDE symposium of 2018 is being curated in response to what Team IDOCDE learned from the IDOCDE Community, the past symposia and within the reflective realm of the MIND THE DANCE publication. This symposium's making is unfolding differently from previous Symposia inasmuch as it is going to be based on the single priciple:

that the Symposium is (1) THE PLACE and (2) THE TIME for (3) THE BECOMING RELATIONSHIP, the content of which is going to be revealed (recognized as content) almost exclusively in real time.

Thereupon, it becomes even more interesting and challenging to focus on documentation through the lens of MINDTHEDANCE.com and look into possibilities of fostering new authors and mentors for the future.

Here, we dare you:

Bring your work, inquiry, ideas, reflections forward and join the community that will attempt to instant-compose a socio-political, choreographic sculpture of experience-based knowledge – and so collectively and collaboratively bring about the 2018 IDOCDE Symposium entitled

You are here!

In order to do that several requirements will need to be met by potential Symposium “presenters”.

*We invite you to think out of the ‘usual’, the ‘conventional’, the ‘traditional’ formats of public presentations, sharings, and teachings. In other words, we invite you to think ‘outside the box.’ This might be the opportunity for some to question or problematize the assumed role language has in enabling communication. What of your thinking and working would best be presented in words, and what of your thinking would best be presented in action, experience, performance, movement, etc.?
