An impression of a class I taught to a few 2nd and 3rd year students of the Jazz and Musical Dance Department of the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten. The class is intended to help them become aware of habitual, excessive tension while moving and improve the use of the body in particular while moving in and out of the floor.

Nicola's class

This is a class I taught in december 2013 to a small group of 2nd and 3rd year students. They start their daily program with a short class of 45 minutes intented to warm them up physically and mentally. In my class, which I named 'Contemporary Flow', I want to not only warm them up, but also help them to become more aware of how they use their bodies.

We usually start with a 'starfish- exercise' of some kind, later on moving slowly across the floor gradually becoming more and more upright. At the end of the class they should be able to move in and out of the floor with ease.

This short video was shot and edited by journalism student Tine Eide.
