Yoga Contact
Iiris and Jarno, both teachers of Iyengar Yoga, will combine this beautiful art with another one – Contact Improvisation. Both of us have been wondering for years how to bridge these two arts noticing there’s a lot that CI can benefit from yoga. In this double-class workshop we will explore themes like the use of floor in order to extend the body and create space in the joints, alignment of bones, entering the back space and becoming familiar with being upside down. Simple asana structures like downward dog or back bents open up new possibilities in the dance. We will start with Yoga-type of work, then open it up into free movement exploration – and of course contact. From here it’s easier to creatively pick elements of Yoga into dancing, as there are lots of useful things in Yoga that can give more clarity, stability and efficiency for dancing contact.
