The students (16-17 years old) were asked to create a one hour long playlist.
”With music they wanted to dance to”
We did the preparation one week before the class.
The playlist looked like this, September 2014:
Say my name (feat Zyra) Odesza
Cut your teeth - kygo remix
All of me - John Legend
LOVE - Gina Dirawi
Pantamera - De Vet Du
Only Time - Enya
The lion`s roar - First aid kit
Mary had a little lamb (12-tone) – Vi Hart
Hometown glory - Adele
Laura - Errol Garner
Winterspell - Thomas Bergersen
Come on Eileen - Dexys midnight runners
Sweet disposition - The Temper Trap
Breezeblocks - alt-J
We danced for one hour.
We discussed duration.
We will continue by reading about Stina Nyberg's Techno Practice from the book "The Coming Boogie-Woggie" and look on her piece Orkestern on Vimeo. Stina´s practice is an example where you relate to the music in an other way than we did in this class. She talkes about "do" the music insted of dance "to" the music.
(I´m thinking about something Ingo Diehl said on the first IDOCDE symposium: " When it´s documented, it´s already history". I´m thinking of the playlist as a small piece of history. One hour of music, selected by young people, dated September 2014, Stockholm, music to dance to)
*the class took place at the Royal Swedish Ballet School, Stockholm.
