- TITLE OF THE ACTIVITY: Learning in the gap between feeling and expression.

- DETAILED CONTENT DESCRIPTION (150 words or more):

Learning in the gap between feeling and expression is a setting to introduce the argument of
Jacques Rancière's "universal teaching", which he describes in his book The Ignorant Schoolmaster – Five Lessons in Intellectual Emancipation. The book was first published in 1987. Nevertheless his claims summarized in the following three point "1. All human beings have the same intelligence. 2. All is in everything. 3. The teacher does not transfer his knowledge through explanations. One can teach that wherein one is ignorant.” provoke interesting thoughts and questions the relation between teacher and student fundamentally Furthermore it is an essential critical examination of the function of institutions.

I want to relate this claims to concepts of the body, especially to contemporary dance  techniques (developed through approaches of postmodern dance) while connecting it to the process of learning. How does the process of learning take place? How is it related to experimentation? To awareness?

For Rancière, it is the artist who, by and by, opposes the professor’s stultifying lesson. “Each one of us is an artist to the extent that he carries out a double process,” he states. “He is not content to be a mere journeyman but wants to make all work a means of expression, and he is not content to feel something but tries to impart it to others. The artist needs equality as the explicator needs inequality.

Tracing some of the fine lines between creating, learning and teaching I would like to open the space for exchange.
