A ballistic body is a body which is free to move, behave, and be modified in appearance, contour, or texture by ambient conditions, substances, or forces.
This workshop attempts to imagine a field of training for the future dancer. Continuing research undergone at Impulstanz in 2011 and 2012 we will apply ideas of ballistics as the practical framework for an approach to the dancing body. Multiple techniques will be referenced taking into account the historical context of their emergence. We will evaluate their value systems and play with/reconfigure/trample upon them. We will work toward embodied investigations of ideas such as shape-shifting, evolution, and mutation as well as how the technological advances of our time shape and expand our physical vocabularies. Like a work of science fiction this workshop will use intuitive force to generate proposals for dance-to-come based upon keen observations of dance-on-hand.
