I gave my students (fourteen 9-11 years old, dancing with me for 70Min./week, contemporary dance) a summary of the skills I wanted them to achieve by the end of the year (see "Lernzielkontrolle Gruppe 3").I took the time to read them through with the group, which in itself helped to clarify our goals. Later they were asked to decide on one or two personal goals for themselves and communicate them to me. At the end of the year, I had a class videotaped as a base for my personal comments to each participant. This was revealing, as I saw details which had escaped me beforehand. Finally, I took some time for each girl (in groups of three). First they were asked to express what they felt were their strong and weak points in terms of our goals. Then I gave my personal feedback. This was possible because I had an assistant work with the other participants while I held the talks. As a last step, the girls filled out a very basic form to evaluate me. It was a spontaneous idea, so I didn't have much time to think about it, but I attach it anyway and welcome suggestions for improvement or better examples (see "Evaluating the Teacher").

Whether this process will have an effect on their future learning I don't know yet - but for me it clarified the most important issues I want to work on with them, after the summer break.
