IDOCs » Hybridization in contemporary dance training
I am focus on developing a dance class model which involves different technical structures and movement systems not only the ballet of the modern dance but rather other type of movement sources like for example the Tango or the Yoga. Through the build up of this type of hybrid dance class model, I am pursuing: firstly a dance training that would be functional from the point of view of the physical- muscular conditioning; integrative (relating the breath and the emotional expressive flow) and that can be applicable to different groups levels and target participants. In a second attempt I am pursuing as well to develop more creative devices for dance language through it.

- TITLE OF THE ACTIVITY 'Hybridization in contemporary dance training' / lecturer and practice

- DETAILED CONTENT DESCRIPTION (150 words or more):

During my studies as dance scholar and later during my professional career as teacher I had many questions about the difference and versatility of the body. When I write about the body in itself, I am referring to the body as a corporeal subject, a cultural body which is different from what we know as the ‘dancing body’. Although those notions are intrinsically connected in the dance studies field, those have two different meanings. These issues about the subjective body and the dancing body that I have mentioned before have geared me to find and search for technical devices and methods that I as a dance teacher, trainer and dramaturge can apply with my dancers, performers and students in the practice and which may enable not only the dancer training but the creative research for dance performance.

At this moment I am focus on developing a dance class model which involves different technical structures and movement systems, not only those ones coming from the academic dance (namely the ballet of the modern dance) but I am rather interested in other type of movement sources like for example the Tango technique or the Yoga as a holistic discipline or the Theatre technique that may regard more options for training, movement development and dancers creativity.

Through my experience along the years I arrived to a sort of technical synthesis which I find very useful to implement in the regular dance training but as well applicable to other disciplines for example theatre, for example folkloric dances.

Through the build up of this hybrid dance class model, I am seeking that the dance training would be functional -from the point of view of the physical- muscular conditioning-, integrative -relating the breath and the emotional expressive flow-, exploratory -which means not restricted to a structural way of moving- and that it can be applicable to different groups levels professional, non professionals and body types -physicality, age, weight-.

I am thinking about ('contemporary') dance practice nowadays as an unlimited practice that we as movers might approach and develop continuously and endlessly.

In these days, I find the hybridization phenomenon in contemporary dance an important pivot factor of disciplinary update and I find as well necessary to make the responsible reference to those movement sources from where that hybridization is merging and where we teachers research and get inspiration.
